II. Bio-behavioral pathway between substance use and mental health conditions (translational research)

This study is supported by the Henry Ford Health Mentored Scientist award. Clinical observation and epidemiology studies have found strong correlation and comorbidities among suicide attempt, opioid use disorder, and schizophrenia. Availability of large-scale genomic data help to understand the genetic etiology and phenotypic spectrum of these phenotypes. This study seeks to use multiple statistical genetics approaches that leverage cross-phenotype relationship for discovering new pleiotropic genetic loci or genes. Leveraging genetic and omics data, it also aims to explain their comorbidity and correlation by polygenic associations, integrative omics, and causal statistical models. Both GWAS summary statistics for and individual level data will be included for multivariate analyses.
